Papoose March 2007

After the FANTASTIC  Sydney Gift Show in February I went
back to Nepal to work on a new range of felted garments
and to start our Christmas products
.
Below some pictures of this trip.
Some of the people I work with.
(I'm the person in red in the back row)
At the wool dyeing facility. The wool gets
stacked in the metal 'cupboards', the dye is
added from the top and depending on
the colour and the depth of colour required,
it takes at least an hour to achieve the right hue.

The colour lab.

One of many colour swatch books.

Taxies are used to transport more than just
people, these goats are dry for the time being!

A sneak pre-view of a new toy box we're doing for
August release.

Waiting for lunch on the roof terrace. It was very cold and
only the last two days I was there, the sun
came out to play.

Again, I had a wonderful trip, I'm getting to know everyone
and am starting to feel like part of a team effort.
Maheswor told me something very nice: The trading
Colours of Australia has done in the last 9 months
has paid for 50 people to eat for a whole year.
I thought this was a lovely way to express business results and
it has made me determined to get that figure up and up!
With the fantastic support our Papoose range is
receiving from our customers, new and old, I'm sure
we'll be feeding people for a long time to come.

Colours of Australia is also looking at setting up
a program in Nepal, especially for girls, to create opportunities
for better skills and thus better income. We're starting with
a sponsorship to teach machining skills (machine stitching)
as these jobs are well paid. With our intention of developing
a garment line, there will be ample opportuntities for work
within the existing business. If you like to contribute in any way,
ideas, suggestions, money, time or effort (that should cover it!)
let me know. In our own small way we're hoping to
positively contribute to the well being of others.
It gives doing business a whole new perspective.
